As UOL grows from strength to strength, we aim to make a positive difference to the community and the environment. We believe that our business can make an impact to the physical and human environment. We care and take responsibility for our operations and give back to the community by supporting youths and sports-related causes.
Community Sponsorship
UOL sponsored a McDonald’s tea party for 30 Starkidz children from CARE Singapore to reward them for their academic and behavioural improvements for the year. The Primary 4 and Primary 5 children who attended the party were assessed by their care-givers such as parents, school teachers, social workers and counselors on their progress, of which only 30 were selected from a group of 74. Velocity kick-started its Christmas promotion with the Frozen Labyrinth where children navigated to win attractive prizes. Not forgetting the spirit of giving during festive season, 20 autistic children from Pathlight School and their family were invited to join in the fun. Upon completion of the maze, they took home an exclusive souvenir – a photograph of themselves in the ice maze. At a Starkidz showcase held in a Primary School, UOL presented a $30 Popular bookstore voucher to each of the 74 Starkidz child for the new academic year. The vouchers were sponsored to help the families offset the rising cost of buying stationery and books for the children. UOL's staff contributed 580 children books to a Book Donation Drive held for the Starkidz children. The Book Donation Drive aimed to promote good reading habits in the Starkidz’ children. Starkidz is a school-based program by CARE Singapore to provide motivational life skills and counselling support for primary school children at risk of academic failure, behaviour problems, emotional maladjustment, self-harm or delinquency. Continuing UOL's effort in making a difference to children's lives, United Square invited children from CARE Singapore for some action adventure for its 8th Anniversary celebration. Over 50 children tried Rock Wall, Cargo Net, Pole Walking, Abseiling and Flying Fox. Each child walked away with a United Square goodie bag containing refreshments and shopping vouchers upon completion of the games in the adventure circuit. The children had a great time and were grateful for the opportunity. CARE Singapore, a registered charity and a youth development agency, provides school-based social work services reaching out to primary and secondary youths at risk of academic failure, behaviour problems, emotional maladjustment, self-harm or delinquency. United Square celebrated its seventh anniversary with an innovative children’s event - “Kids in a Big World”. At the event, Kids experienced occupational role-play as a forensic scientist, a pilot, a ship caption, an animal trainer, a perfumer, an animator, a model and a photographer. As part of the celebration, United Square invited 22 children from the Childcare Division of Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home to experience “Kids in the Big World” before the event was opened to the public. UOL was one of the main sponsors for a community service project to Yogyakarta, Indonesia when an unexpected earthquake hit in May 2006. In aid of this mishap, a Yogyakarta Disaster Response Expedition Program was set up and jointly facilitated by Habitat for Humanity Singapore and Indonesia.
