UOL volunteers brought 20 primary school students from CARE Singapore to the Underwater World in Sentosa for an educational trip on marine conservation.
UOL's two shopping malls, United Square and Velocity@Novena Square, played host to 100 student beneficiaries from The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, with each student given $100 worth of retail vouchers to shop as part of the malls’ “Shop-for-a-Wish Day” initiative.
Seventeen staff volunteers accompanied 31 students from a primary school under CARE Singapore's Starkidz Programme on an educational tour to a farm in Sungei Tengah. Prior to the tour, five volunteers also came together to prepare giant worksheets that covered the life cycles of quails and goats. Through working on the worksheets with the volunteers, the students could reinforce what they saw and learnt that day.
UOL partnered CARE Singapore to organise a Reading Fiesta to reach out to a group of primary school students. UOL volunteers became “teachers” at the event. The Reading Fiesta aimed to stimulate the children’s interest in reading through learning new words in fun ways with Charades, Hangman and Twister. About 50 students participated in this event. UOL also donated $5,000 to CARE Singapore for the event.
Held at United Square, the STTA-PCF Carnival saw over 200 kindergarten children participated in a day of fun and games as they competed in an inter-PCF table tennis competition among 18 constituencies. The Carnival aims to showcase the table tennis skills of the young paddlers to nurture future sports talents of Singapore. In support of the sport, United Square sponsored $5,000 worth of cash and shopping vouchers.
At a StarKidz! showcase organised by CARE Singapore in a primary school, UOL presented a $30 Popular bookstore voucher to each of the 74 students for the new academic year. The vouchers were sponsored to help the families offset the rising cost of buying stationery and books for the children. The showcase consisted of song and dance performances by the students, and a sharing of key learning points. There was also award presentations to acknowledge the students' performance.
