An army of 80 “mutants” found themselves in a cinema hall watching the latest blockbuster film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, on 5 September 2023.
It was a treat for these 50 children, aged seven to 12, from Care Corner Student Care Centres (Admiralty and Woodlands branches), to enjoy a movie during the week-long school break with about 30 UOL and SingLand volunteers.
The event kicked off at Golden Village Suntec City, where they were pulled into a movie plot brimming with action and excitement. After the screening, the group had lunch at The Tree Café at Marina Square to continue their conversations about the movie and other common interests.
Nur Azura, eight, beamed with joy and said: “I don’t always get to go to the cinema, so today was really special for me. My favourite part of the day was eating popcorn and watching the movie. Thank you for this wonderful day!”
UOL volunteer, Jocelyn Ong, Assistant Human Resource Manager, said she was glad to see the children enjoying themselves in a safe environment. She said: “As a parent of a primary school child, I understand how much they look forward to their school holidays. I had a great time with the kids too!”
Apart from engaging the children through staff volunteering activities since 2018, UOL has been supporting Care Corner Student Care Centres (SCC) in other ways. This year, UOL continued to contribute to the SCC bursary to help the less privileged to stay on the after-school care programme.
The children and volunteers bonded over a hearty meal at The Tree Café.
