In September, UOL Corporate Communications, Investor Relations and Sustainability Department organised several activities to engage and bond with seniors and children from diverse backgrounds.

On 24 September 2024, 34 seniors from AWWA Senior Community Home enjoyed a memorable post Mid-Autumn Festival celebration. Accompanied by over 20 UOL volunteers, the event featured a snow skin mooncake-making session and a lunch buffet at PARKROYAL on Beach Road. 74-year-old Pek Lai Har said: “The buffet spread was exceptionally delicious, but eating together with fellow residents and volunteers made it more memorable!”

Led by Chef Lu Shi Qian and Chef Yu Xue Wen from Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant, the seniors crafted snow skin mooncakes with lotus and date fillings. Ruby Seah, 74, shared: “The last time we had a mooncake-making session was before the COVID pandemic. It was fun to do it again!” UOL Executive (Project, Customer Service) Sam Yap, who was volunteering for the first time, said: “Spending time with the elderly at the event made me realise that happiness can be as simple as having a good meal, meeting people, or enjoying a fun activity, even if it is only for a short time. The experience reminds me to ‘Live in the Moment’!”

To round off the day, the group visited Objectifs to view the first solo exhibition by Fern Wong, an artist with Down syndrome and winner of the inaugural UOL X ART:DIS Art Prize. Juriah, 76, said: “It was my first time visiting an exhibition organised by UOL and ART:DIS at Objectifs, and it was nice to see the different art pieces and hear the stories behind them.”

Another adventure unfolded at Objectifs on 26 September 2024, as a total of 12 children from ComLink+ @ Jurong West and artists from ART:DIS  visited the exhibition and participated in art jamming activities alongside each other.

Emily, 9, expressed her love for the bright colours at the exhibition and enjoyed learning about the ART:DIS artists. She found the hands-on creativity inspiring, motivating her to be more artistic! Mother of three siblings – Elmylya, 8, Elfizan, 9, and Eddriyan, 10, said: “They were so happy to play with colours and learn something new, especially making keychains, as it was their first time doing so.”

ART:DIS artist Nicole Koo, 32, jovially reflected on the outing: “Visiting Fern’s exhibition and art jamming with the kids was a wonderful experience for me as an artist. It allowed me to experiment with a new medium involving paper cuts and colouring with markers, away from my paint brushes and watercolours.”

Senior artist, Eugene Soh, 61, expressed his sentiments: “My takeaway from Fern’s exhibition was profound admiration for her sensitivity to colour and her creativity in turning simple materials into meaningful art. The art jamming with the kids was equally heartwarming – creativity flowed effortlessly, transforming art into a powerful bridge of connection and inspiration for everyone involved.”
